Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

my husband's interview was on May 4, 2009. I accompanied my husband for his IR1. The line was fairly quick. There was no point in getting to the embassy early because IR1 people were allowed to start entering the building around 9:15am and everyone's appt is at 10am. We got there arnd 9:30am and inside at 10am. first officer just collected my husband's ppst and 2 photos and she only asked me where I was living (I live in Abu dhabi w/husband). Then 1/2hr later we were called again this time it was for the interview. I decided to go with my husband to the window. The lady officer was very nice. She didn't ask my husband(beneficiary) any questions, she only asked me when we would plan on moving to the states. I just told her since UAE has contracts my husband 1st needs to take care of that than I would say abt 2-3months. she was happy to hear that and then she said everything is good your visa has been granted and approved. All you need to do is look for your case # online & one that show... read complete review

The process was quick, questioning was brief, and staff were pleasant. I believe if your paperwork is in perfect order you should pass with little difficulty. The only complaint is that you have to return in a few days to retrieve your passport and visa.

Everything went well and they asked him questions about our relationship, how long we've known each other, how many times we've met. He was done in 1.5 hours. Thank you God

The embassy in Abu Dhabi was quite pleasant. Everyone was polite. I would get there as early as you can as everyone has the same appointment time and you line up outside and wait to get in. So the sooner you get there the sonner your papers start getting processed. They have a shaded area to sit in line and up towards the front they do have fans which can help quite a bit when the heat is bad. I did accompany my fiance for his interview and was allowed to take part in the whole process. We had to check our bags at a security station but if you had a reason for keeping a certain bag they seemed to listen. All the interviewers were quite polite. We did have to wait a long time before we got our decision. Granted we were one of the last people there but we had been there from 7am to almost 3pm. We were starving. They do have a vending machine that only takes dirhams, so bring dirhams!

US Embassy of Abu Dhabi:

This consulate does not respond to email inquiries AT ALL.

My husband went for his CR-1 interview on December 11th. They told him "he passed" the interview, but that we needed to get a Joint Sponsor. Additionally, they reiterated three times that ADMINISTRATIVE PROCESSING will take 1 month. HOWEVER, the Department of State contradicted this time frame and said the Consulate OFficers are not giving accurate information on real processing times. It is now 1 1/2 months and our case is still in AP.
I have since found out that other Iranians going through Abu Dhabi have been told the same disinformation and are also waiting longer than expected.

Do not beleive the Consulate Officer if they say administrative processing takes less than 1 or 2 months.
